A Review on Thomson Coil Actuators in Fast Mechanical Switching

With the rapid development of DC power systems and increasing demand for circuit breakers, electromagnetic repulsive drives-based Thomson coil actuators (TCA) are widely investigated to provide high-speed actuating required ultra-fast mechanical switches, especially those used in hybrid breakers. The mechanism is be fast, reliable, economic. This article summarizes breakers recent years, further illustrating basic principles actuator topology. In addition, it discusses various structural components TCA describes utilized modeling simulation methods. main objective was a comprehensive overview field.
